Obituary of Dewey James Thomas

Kingsport - Dewey James Thomas, 84, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born on September 21, 1933 in Abingdon, VA to the late Ernest Howard Taft Thomas and Myrtle Cumbo Thomas. He was a lifelong truck driver working many years at Mason & Dixon lines where he started out as a tank driver and then going on to be a freight driver and retiring from Carolina Freights. Dewey was a member of Weber City Church of God.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Hulen William Thomas; brother, Dale Howard Thomas.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Martha (Tippy) Thomas; son, Ernie Thomas; daughter, Lisa Gilliam and husband Barry; three grandchildren, Toby Davis and wife Ann, Bryan Davis and wife Jessica, and Jennifer Light; four great grandchildren, Simon Light, Scotlynn Light, Avery Davis, and Levi Davis; special brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Mildred Inscore; two special sisters-in-law Birdie and Yvonne Carr; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. Friends may also call anytime at the home of the daughter.

A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tim Owen officiating. Music will be provided by True Faith Quartet.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Adrian Buckner for his help and kindness during Dewey’s illness.
