Obituary of John Beaty Huff
John B. Huff, age 95, of Jonesborough and formerly of Surgoinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Mountain Home V.A. Community Living Center Hospice Unit. He was a veteran of the United States Military having proudly served as a Sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a POW, being captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He was of the Christian faith, enjoyed gardening and loved fishing. He was a retiree of Mason Dixon Trucking with 20+ years of service.
John was the last remaining child of the late, John and Lula Huff. Having 14 siblings, he was very proud to have had such a long and healthy 95 years of life. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all of his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Barton Huff; parents, John H. and Lula Huff; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Huff Bacon and husband, Bruce; son, John B. Huff, Jr. and wife, Kathy; 4 grandchildren, Bruce Bacon and wife, Amber, Ben Bacon and wife, Jessica, Holly Walker and husband, Alex, and J.B. Huff, III; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Jon Reed and Rev. Wayne Huff officiating. A Military Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens with the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 performing military rites. All those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 pm.
