Obituary of Jessie Miller Tarwater

Kingsport-  Jessie Miller Tarwater, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Life Care Center of Gray following an extended illness.  Jessie was born in Barhamsville, VA and lived in Virginia until moving to Kingsport in 2014 to be closer to her family. She was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Kingsport.

Jessie was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gardening and helped her husband, Tom, with a produce business in Williamsburg, VA, for several years. When younger and in good health, she was faithful to her church and served in any way that she could.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest J. Miller and Annie Stubblefield Miller Morris, and her brother Ernest J. Miller, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Thomas Tarwater, her sister, Ann Miller, daughter, Brenda Tarwater Lewis (husband, Bob), son, Larry Tarwater, grandsons, Tim Lewis (wife, Jessica) Brian Lewis (wife, Melissa) and Jonathan Lewis (wife, Robin) and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport, TN on Wednesday, February 6. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM with funerals services at 12:00 PM. Jessie's son-in-law, Rev. Bob Lewis, will officiate along with her grandsons. A Graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, at Petsworth Baptist Church cemetery in Gloucester, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the 180 Church, 3400 Trenton Rd, Clarksville, TN 37040. Earmark gifts to "Feeding Needs International Brian Lewis". Jesse's grandson, Brian, will be part of a ministry team going to Uganda under FNI to minister in May of this year.
