Obituary of Leon Coomer

LEON  COOMER

Kingsport-  Albert Leon Coomer, 66, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning (February 13, 2019) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.  He was born in Big Stone Gap, VA where he attended Powell Valley High School.  Leon loved to sing Southern Gospel music and spent several years travelling and singing with various quartets.  He retired from Donihe Graphics with 25 years of service.  Following retirement, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of his family.  He was a very active and faithful member of Christ Fellowship where he had served as Children’s Pastor, Board Member, and Deacon.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kaleb Coomer;  parents, George and Audrey Coomer; his brothers, Donald Coomer and Omer Coomer.

Leon Coomer is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Spears Coomer; special granddaughter, Kyleigh Coomer; his daughters, Heather Coomer White, Jessica Harmon and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Audrey Gambill, Joseph Gambill, Joe Fox, Sadie Harmon, and Nolan Harmon; his sister, Darlene Bradford (Ernie Dickson); a brother, Harold Coomer and wife, Tammy; a special cousin, Frankie Elliott along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be on Saturday (February 16, 2019) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Christ Fellowship Church.  A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday (February 16, 2019) at 6 p.m. at the church with Pastor Derek Harden and Pastor Greg DePriest, officiating.  Music will be provided by Larry and Trish Short and Tyla Boyd.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday (February 17, 2019) at 2 p.m.at Oak Hill Cemetery with Jeff Frazier, Billy Gray, Andrew Sanders, Bobby McConnell, Jeff Mann, and  Barry Steadman serving as pallbearers.  Leon’s wishes would be in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made to Christ Fellowship Church Children’s Ministry, 260 Victory Lane, Kingsport, TN 37664.  Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Coomer family.
