Obituary of Sam Fanning

SAM  FANNING

Kingsport-  Sam “Sammy” Fanning, 46, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening (March 13, 2019) following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.  He was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland and had resided in Kingsport since 1982.  Sam was a 1991 graduate of Sullivan North High School.  He served with the United States Marine Corps from 1991-1995 achieving the rank of (E-5) Sergeant.  Sam was a veteran of Desert Storm.  Sam was currently employed with Domtar where he was fortunate enough  to be able to work with his son, Dalton.  He enjoyed hunting with his sons, being a member of Rolling Thunder, and riding his motorcycle.  Sam loved the Lord, his country, and truly loved and provided for his family.  He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Carson Fanning.

Sam Fanning is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Sherry Robinson Fanning; sons, Dalton Patrick Fanning and girlfriend, Kayla Collins, and Aaron Blake Fanning; his precious grandson, Dakota Patrick Fanning; his parents, Lonnie and Judy Fanning; brothers, Jonnie Fanning, Roy Fanning and wife, Becky, James Fanning and wife, Shana; a “special son”,  Austin Depew; along with a multitude of close friends and loving family.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday (March 17, 2019) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport from 4 pm until 7 pm or friends may also call anytime at the residence of Ronnie and Theresa Crawford, 401 Winston Circle in Kingsport.  A funeral service will be held at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel at Carter-Trent with Pastor Kelly Dykes, officiating.  Music will be provided by Heavenly Reflections and “Sisters of his Heart”, Debbie and Theresa.  A military service will be conducted by the Marine Corps Honor Guard on Monday (March 18, 2019) at 1:45 pm at Mountain Home National Cemetery along with Rev. Danny Dolen providing scripture and prayer.  Dalton Fanning, Aaron Fanning, Jonnie Fanning, Roy Fanning, James Fanning, Jack Hobbs, and Billy Evans will be serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Crawford, Wade Eaves, Justin Stacy, Chris Akens, Chris Housewright, Tony (Taz) Irvine, and Barry Lane.  You can send an online condolence to the family by visiting www.cartertrent.com.  Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Fanning family.
