Obituary of Clarence David Wininger, Sr.
Clarence D. Wininger, 98, of Yuma, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Nova Health and Rehabilitation, Weber City, Virginia following an extended illness.
Clarence was born February 27, 1921, in Scott County, VA. He lived his life in the Chalybeate Springs community of Yuma, VA. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He showed his love for others with kindness and generosity.
Clarence retired from Holston Army Ammunition Plant in 1983. He was a born again Christian and a lifelong member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church. In his younger days he taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting, working on his farm, visiting friends and caring for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter P. Wininger and Ida Bell Hensley Wininger, his wife of 65 years Ella Mae Snapp “Bug” Wininger, a brother Tom Wininger, sisters Emily Ratliff, Blanche Bellamy, Janie Fields, and Claudia Ramey.
He is survived by his son, C. D. “Skip” Wininger, Jr. and wife Patricia; two grandchildren, Clint Wininger and wife Kelly, Candice Wininger Begley and husband Kent; two great grandsons, Jackson Wininger, Braxton Wininger and one great granddaughter Claudia Begley.
Visitation will be at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA, on Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Kyle Falin and Rev. Terry Fleenor officiating. Friends and family will provide music.
The burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Falin, Bill Falin, Tommy Fields, Eddie Wininger, Kent Begley and Clint Wininger. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Williams and David Wininger.
The family would like to thank the staff at Nova Health and Rehab and Dr. Lee for the good care they provided our loved one.
