Obituary of Norma DeBord Livesay

NORMA  DEBORD  LIVESAY

Kingsport-  Norma DeBord Livesay, age 85, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

She was born in Eidson, Tennessee and spent the majority of her life in Kingsport, Tennessee.

She was a co-founder and charter member of Higher Ground Baptist Church for over 30 years, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, sang in the choir, and helped prepare Communion bread.

Norma was a school teacher while she attended college, a homemaker, and a secretary for George Livesay Builders; she was also a care giver for senior citizens, which was a ministry to her.  Her life centered around the Lord, her family, her church, and her friends.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved her children and grandchildren, she loved serving the Lord, and she especially loved the ladies in the Mary Sunday School class.  She was always willing to help others, to laugh, and to have fun.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, George Livesay; her parents, Thomas and Pearl Richardson DeBord; and her brothers Kenneth and Dwight, as well as three infant siblings, Ralph, Linda, and an infant brother.

Surviving are her three sons, Greg Livesay and wife Lennis; Jeff Livesay; and David Livesay and wife Sarah; six grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Grant, Caroline, George, Wade, and Wyatt Livesay, and Benjamin Langlinais. She is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Hopson of Greeneville, Tennessee and Lillie Dickenson of Kingsport, Tennessee; four brothers, Elmer DeBord and wife Phyllis, Clyde DeBord, and Larry DeBord and wife Wanda, also of Kingsport, and Hugh Kyle DeBord and wife Bessie Sue of Morristown, Tennessee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Higher Ground Baptist Church from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2019.  A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with her Pastor, Dr. Ronnie Owens officiating.  A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery with Fred Lane, Randy Livesay, Scott Hurley, Mark Baker, Wesley DeBord, and Wyatt Livesay serving as pallbearers.
