Obituary of Helen Betty Kerns

Betty Kerns 83, of Gate City went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Betty was a devoted Christian and a member of Kaylor’s Chapel Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bruce Kerns; parents, Melvin and Georgia Rhoton; sister, Reba Horton; brother, Harold Rhoton.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Hensley; grandson, Brandon Hensley and wife Lydia; nephews, Mike, Greg, and Tracy Rhoton; niece, Brenda Kerns; special friends, Jim and Ella Mae McDavid and Jim Smith; special cousin, Linda Couch; loyal companion, Sugar; along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jerry Hensley and Rev. Daryle Hurd officiating. Music will be provided by the Kaylor’s Chapel Choir.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery with Pastor Joe Hill officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Smith and Paul Arwood. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.
