Obituary of Roy Alvin Johnson

Kingsport- Roy Alvin Johnson, 76, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning (June 9, 2019) at his residence.  He was born in Hawkins County and had resided in Kingsport since 1965. He was a veteran of the United States Army.  Roy retired from AFG with over 40 of years of service.  He loved UT sports and to watch NASCAR.  He especially loved to take care of his family making sure his grandchildren were taken care of.  He was a faithful member of Browders Chapel Church where he served as Deacon. Roy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Flora Johnson; brothers, J. Fred Johnson and Carl Herman Johnson; sisters, Beulah Johnson Rhea and Margaret Johnson Justis; a sister-in-law, Shirley Dobbs Johnson.

Roy Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Johnson; his children, Rhonda (Lucio) Montoya, Rebecca (Joe) Nelms; his grandchildren, Austin (Van) Nelms, Holly (Chance) Viers, Brian Montoya along with four great grandchildren; a brother, J. D. (Janice) Johnson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson; brother-in-law, Arling Rhea along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at Browders Chapel Church, 538 Browders Chapel Road, Hiltons, VA on Saturday (June 15, 2019) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kyle Falin and Pastor Marshall Steinle, officiating. There will be a visitation following the celebration of life. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family during this time. 

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Johnson family.
