Obituary of Gay Bowman Brown

Gay Bowman Brown 79, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was a native of Counts, Va and graduated from Haysi High School.  At the age of 18, she enrolled at Hiwassee College and graduated third in her class while receiving her Associates Degree and playing women’s basketball.

After graduation, she immediately began her banking career.  She worked as a teller at First Tennessee Bank until her second daughter was born.  She put her career on hold to raise her two daughters. She was later employed by Lola Dean Tax Service. She also helped many family and friends with their taxes. She continued her banking career and became an investment guru helping many people.  She won several awards selling CD’s.

She received her BA from Tusculum College and  remained with First Tennessee until her retirement. She immediately began taking care of her husband and parents at the same time.

Gay was a woman of great faith and attended Prospect United Methodist Church. Over the years, she taught Sunday school, led UMYF and was active with Bible School. She was also PTA  President, a Girl Scout Leader, Yuma Elementary Substitute Teacher, active in Home Demonstration, and supported her husband with many Ruritan events.

She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Alma Bowman and her husband Harold Brown.

Surviving are her daughters Lesa Brown, Pam Brown grandson Don Grigg, sister Virginia Rader (Wayne), brothers Norman Bowman (Mae) and Gene Bowman (Brenda). She has several nieces, nephews, and cousins she loves dearly. Special shout out to her fur baby granddaughters Brownie and MollyJ

The family will receive friends at Scott County Funeral Home on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Janet Sweet officiating. A Eulogy will be provided by Rev. Wayne Rader.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Culbertson, Scott Culbertson, Jamie Brown, Peyton Culbertson, Don Grigg, and Josh Burke. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 am.

A special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Indian Path Hospital and Nova Health and Rehab.
