Obituary of Charles William Smith Jr.

Charles “Wild Bill” Smith, Jr. 74, of Jonesborough, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center.

Bill was born in Pensacola, Florida to the late Arline and Charles William Smith Sr. Bill was an avid Genealogist and loved to cook. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of faithful service. He was loyal member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bill was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Shearer; step daughter, Wendie Anderson Horne; grandson, Christian Anderson; and mother and father in-law, Genevieve and Hansford Ferris.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia Joann Smith; children, Brett and Debbie Smith, Wendy and Raul Lopez, Marenda and Burt Harvey, Morgan and Austin Smith, Wrae Croom, Chuck and Susie Reed, Chris Reed, and Craig and Valerie Reed;  many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Smith; sister, Marilyn Sams; sister in-laws, Donna Hambelton and Teresa Berry, brother in-law, Luther Van Landingham; and his beloved and loyal pup, Lady.

A private military graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Mountain Home VA National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Grandson, William Charles Reed III will be officiating.  

The family would like to thank the Mountain Home VA Medical Center for their kindness and great care.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Home VA Medical Center Medical Service, Hospice and Palliative Care, 809 Lamont Street Mountain Home, TN 37684, in Bill’s name.
