Obituary of Shirley Ann Green Pierson
Shirley Ann Green Pierson, 79, of Ft. Blackmore passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Shirley grew up on Stoney Creek in Scott County, Va. She graduated from Dungannon High School and lived in Fort Blackmore. She served as caregiver for her youngest son David for many years with courage and grace. She worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service at the Nicklesville and Gate City Branches where she made many lasting and valued friendships. Once she retired she continued her passion and talent for growing all manner of green things and providing help wherever she saw a need. Although busy she was always ready to “go” whenever a travel opportunity arose. She particularly liked visits from her “granddog” Missy and taking care of her special pets Bo, Blackie, and Little Man. She will be greatly missed by her family and countless friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her son, David Pierson; mother, Ocha Mae Baldwin Green; father, Otto Green; brother, John D Green; brother, Colin Green; and special friend, Johnny Stewart.
Shirley is survived by her son, Dwight Pierson and wife Kathy; daughter, Marilyn Fields and husband Mark; grandson, Dustin Pierson and wife Cynthia; granddaughter, Kristin Moye and husband Brandon, granddaughter, Emily Kaslin Fields; great-grandaughter Clementine Moye; ex-husband, Merle Pierson; brother, Leon Green; sister-in-law, Shelby Ervin; sister-in-law, Janice Green; cousin, Bobbie Johnson; caregiver, Remy Stidham; special friend, Starla Begley; “grand dog” Missy; and pets Bo, Blackie, and Little Man.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15am to go in procession.
The family would like to thank all the health care professionals that provided care during her recent illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Scott County Humane Society, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
