Obituary of Gregory Alan Harvey

Greg Harvey

 

2 Timothy 4:7 ... “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith!”

 

Kingsport – Gregory Alan Harvey, age 60, who resided in the Bloomingdale community of Kingsport, Tennessee, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020. Greg was son of the late Ellery and Eva Harvey Simpson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Harrison Wayne Mulkey. Born in Kingsport, Greg was recognized for his expertise in the automotive industry as a top-notch mechanic. He owned and operated Bloomingdale Car Care for several years. Greg was widely known in auto racing around East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, both as an official and sponsor. During the '80s he drove a race car at Kingsport Speedway, and through the years he worked on pit crews for different drivers and race teams. With his mechanical knowledge, Greg was highly in demand as a racetrack pit official and he worked at Kingsport Speedway. He also served as general manager in the early 2000’s, at Volunteer Speedway and Lonesome Pine Raceway. Greg also traveled around the Southeast as an official with the United Auto Racing Association (UARA-STARS). During the 2019 racing season entering 2020, Greg was head tech man at "The Gap". Greg also coached youth sports in Bloomingdale over the years, being a mentor to many boys and girls in the community. A friend to all who had the good fortune of knowing him during his time on Earth, Greg was much-loved and will definitely be missed by everyone whose lives he had touched. What a truly remarkable person he was and the great legacy he leaves behind.

 

 

Greg is survived by his son, Chris Harvey and wife Chelsea; daughter, Heather Castle and fiancé, Adam Bodkins; grandsons, Blake and Caden; sisters, Joretta Morgan and husband Rusty and Lori Simpson; brother, Les Simpson and fiancée Alicia; nieces, Brittany Morgan and fiancé Justin Mulkey and Ashley Parsons and husband Quin.

 

It was Greg's wishes to be cremated upon his passing. A celebration of life remembrance gathering for Greg's racing friends will take place at a later time.
