Obituary of Donald "Don" Salley

Kingsport – Donald Ray “Don” Salley, 86 of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2020. He was a lifelong member of our community and was loved by his family, and his many friends. He was graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1953 and East Tennessee State University in 1957. Don was the youngest child of Claude and Lena Belle Salley and was married to Joan Jean Kilbourne for 52 years until her death in 2005. He loved interaction with friends, family and the joy those things brought to his life. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. Our family would like to thank those who were so graciously involved with his end of life care and the prayers for our family at this difficult time. He was our father, teacher and comforter. We will miss him.

He is survived by his four sons Robin A. Salley, of Colorado, David R. Salley, Tn., Preston L. Salley, Tn., and Brett T. Salley, Tn., and granddaughter Lydia Clair Salley of South Carolina.

 

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, February 17, 2020 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home.

 

A funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Salley officiating.

 

A graveside service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
