Obituary of Patsy Ruth Trent Lane

Mrs. Patsy Ruth Trent Lane, 79 of Sulphur Springs, TN who was born to Bill and Nadine Trent in Rogersville, TN peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

Patsy was a long time resident of Sulphur Springs after she and Bill and the kids moved from Church Hill in 1973. Patsy went to Church Hill High School. She loved Home Economics class where she learned to make drapes and curtains for which she excelled so well that she made it her career. Patsy worked in the Sears Roebuck and Company interior decorating department. Her husband Bill built a drapery shop in their home from which she made beautiful drapes for many homes in the Tri-Cities. She supervised the drapery workroom at Dockery’s Floor Covering with a great group of ladies who all became very good friends. Patsy is still remembered for great burgers, soup beans and cornbread at her little restaurant beside of Bill’s Bay Station in Sulphur Springs. She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Sue Lane-Laws; brother, Jim Trent; and her sisters, Marlene Christian and Billie Jo Blizzard.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years Billy Joe Lane; daughter, Gina Hammonds and husband Chuck; step-son, Billy Wayne Lane and wife Patricia; son-in-law, Kevin Laws; brother, Wayne Trent and wife Carolyn; sister, June “Ann” Blizzard; granddaughters, Pamela Jones and husband Ricky, Priscilla Roberts and husband Richie, Summer Starnes and husband Jonathan, Savannah Laws, grandson-in-law, Justin Pruett; great-grandsons, Colt and Oliver along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the Sulphur Springs Cemetery with Dr. Jody Jenkins officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.
