Brad, Carrie and family,
To say that Brent meant a lot to me and my family is an understatement! He was the first person I called when my dad passed away. It was after midnight and he didn't mind at all. He's that kind of guy.
You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your families loss. Brent was a great young man. I met Brent while my husband, Wayne Smith, was coaching girls basketball at Colonial Heights Middle School:-) We all became friends and when our son was born it bonded us even closer, he is 29 now!
You could not find a better christian person!
This world has lost a great christian to God!
There are no words that I can say to ease the pain I am sure you are feeling. I know we were blessed to know and have Brent as a friend for the time that we did. I thank God for that!
You and your family are in our prayers,
Gina, Tyler and Wayne Smith

To Brent’s precious family, Brent will always hold a special place in my heart for his kindness, humor, sweet smile, and above all his heart for the people he served. I have seen him break down in sorrow as he assisted our family and the families of friends. He was a special man in this community and he will be sorely missed by so very many in Kingsport and the surrounding areas. May God’s unseen hands wrap around each of you as you walk this valley of grief. You are loved by many.

Being a score keeper for high school basketball continuously over the last 43 years, and transporting teams on the road, I have become acquainted with numerous officials, who I have come to call my friends. Brent was at the top of the list. His integrity and enthusiasm for the game was unmatched. His smile and personality have always lit up a gym. It was always a pleasure to see him walk into the Unicoi County gym or in any gym where we were playing. You always knew that you were going to get his very best when it came to officiating. His integrity has been an example to many younger officials. The game of basketball is better because of him. Rest now my brother, you have fought the good fight and your race has been run.

Brent you were always a great friend and always felt honored to have you and your family in my life. From golf outings, to events, to ball games, surprising you at work, to me cooking you "Daytona" wings at "The Shack" when you would pop in the back kitchen door because you had just finished reffing a ball game...I will cherish all those memories and our phone calls where at least one of us was laughing the entire conversation. You are a great man, a great dad, great husband, and a great friend. Our loss hurts and is felt throughout an entire community but we can rejoice to know where you are right now. I look forward to seeing you again buddy and until then we will continue to pray for Carrie, Blain, Blair, and all your family and friends. Our thoughts are with them constantly. The world is a little more dimmer without you now and I will miss you man.

It was a Blessing to know Brent from kindergarten all the way through high school. We’ve always been great friends and we always joked around about everything! Last time I seen him was at my neighbors funeral back in February and I was so excited to see him that I just immediately hugged him and he looked around and said now Tonya where’s Jerry? Are you trying to get me in trouble and we all just laughed and talked about our childhood, high school memories, but mostly God , so that’s another memory I’ll cherish with me. He’s such a kind hearted person and just a great individual to everyone he comes in contact with. He will be missed, but his legacy will continue on! See you in Heaven my brother ❤️

I first met Brent when he was one of our students at Ketron Middle School. He was always bright and cheerful, pleasant to be around, and just a great student/athlete. I saw him again many times after he left KMS and he was always the same friendly person I knew as a kid. I kept the book or ran the clock at many KMS basketball games and it was always a real treat when Brent officiated a game for us. He was a consummate professional as an official; always on top of things and clear with calls and rulings.
I know he was treasured by Carrie and their children and all his family members but he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He truly was one of the Good Guys.

I didn't want to say much this morning because it wasn't my story to tell.... Brent told his own story by his actions not just words. Been a dear friend for 35 plus years. We had some great times in high school, and after when he got me into officiating. He was a great mentor for me while I was learning to control the game. We had some sad times, those are when I learned the most about him.. When Erin died he was the 2nd phone call I made and he said "Brian don't worry, I've got it all taken care of and if my buddy there can't come get her tonight and meet me, I'll come to Nashville myself" .. thats who he was..selfless, caring, compassionate, and considerate. He loved his friends and his family with all he had. Carrie and the kids were his world. His mom, dad, brother and his family meant everything. He NEVER said a bad word about anyone, even when he should have. A model Godly, family man left earth today but we will see him again soon. Until then I promise I will try to be more like him!!!! I love you man!!!
