Margaret Isabell "Bell" Collings Monroe

Obituary of Margaret Isabell "Bell" Collings Monroe

Mrs. Margaret Isabell “Bell” Collings Monroe, 79, of Mount Carmel, passed away Friday, May 15, 2020. God welcomed one of his special angels to the portals of Glory with her husband Darrell there to welcome her with outstretched arms.

Bell was born May 28, 1940, in Scott County, Virginia to the late Wesley A. and Gladys P. Collings.

Bell graduated from Gate City High School and Whitney Business College. She retired from Smith Mechanical.

Bell was a superb cook. She was known to many as the “Pumpkin Roll Lady” for those delicious pumpkin rolls she made and delivered to all the people that she loved dearly. She so enjoyed cooking, baking and bringing many tasty dishes to friends and relatives. Serving others was her life ministry and if anyone needed help, she was always there.

Bell and Darrell were never blessed with children of their own but they loved each and every niece, nephew, great- niece and great- nephew and considered them to be their own precious children.

She was a long time member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Bell was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years Darrell Edwin Monroe; two brothers, James Welford Collings and Charles L. Collings; four sisters, Kathleen Marcum, Ruby Hutton, Evelyn Shamburger and Shirley Jackson; father and mother-in-law, Eva and Beryl Monroe.

Survivors include two sisters, Cleo Hersman of Cincinnati and Ilene Fletcher and her husband Ted of Duffield, Va.; two brothers, Ervin L. Collings of Church Hill and Lloyd Collings and his wife Judy of Kingsport; one brother-in-law, Leon Jackson of Kingsport; brother and sister-in-law, Val and Mary Ruth Monroe; many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews.

The family sends a heartfelt thank you to a special great- niece, Kaitlyn Clark, who lived and cared for our “Aunt Bell” until her death, and a special great- nephew, Wesley Weigel, who was always there with love and support when needed. Thanks also to her friends Joyce Lee, Sonya Peters and Teresa Mayo whom she looked forward to seeing at her weekly hair appointment.
