Obituary of Wendell "Cotton" Winegar

Wendell “Cotton” Winegar, 77, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2020 after an extended battle with cancer.

 

Cotton was born on January 14, 1943 in Hawkins County to the late William “Ed” Winegar and Rose Cleek Winegar. He was the youngest of five children. He worked at the paper mill in Kingsport for 52 years. Cotton had a passion for aviation and held a pilot’s license for many years.  Cotton was always very generous, kind, never met a stranger and would do anything for his family. Cotton was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

 

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Winegar Marsh; and his siblings Cap, Keith, Wanda, and Randall.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are granddaughter, Wendy Witenbarger; grandson, PJ Marsh; great grandchildren, Seth, Madelyn, and Avery Witenbarger; son-in-law, Paul Marsh; sons and daughters in love, Tom and Donna Carter, Tim and Karen Gardner, Darryl and Debbie Marsh; life-long friend, Wanda Carver; along with several nieces and nephews.

 

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 PM.
