John Stone

Obituary of John Robert Stone

John R. Stone, 59, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord due to an extended illness on Sunday, May 24th, 2020 at Holston Valley Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

John graduated from Church Hill High School where he enjoyed running track and cross country. He completed an apprenticeship program at Eastman Chemical Company where he became a faithful employee as an Engineering Technician, a position he was extremely proud of, for 40 years.

His favorite past-time was volunteer coaching at Ross N. Robinson Middle School for the track and cross country teams, where he loved cheering for all of the kids, including his own. He also loved attending all of the events his children were a part of as their biggest cheerleader. John will be remembered by many of the young people throughout the area. John was a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he met his wife, Deana.

John was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bobby” Stone.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty years, Deana Stone, daughter Emily Cook and husband Andrew, son Evan Stone, daughter Erica Stone, mother June Stone, and sister Debra Stone. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. The family of Mr. John R. Stone will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday May 28, 2020, in the Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Chuck Frazier and Pastor Tony Ellis officiating. Other speakers include Terry Diamond and Emily Cook. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, in the Oak Hill Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tony Ellis, Todd Ketron, Scott Byerley, Dustin Shelton, Tommy Harris, and Mark Douglas. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
