Obituary of Roger Jay Woods

ROGER  JAY  WOODS

Gate City-  Roger Jay Woods, 67, of Gate City passed away on Saturday morning (November 10, 2018) following a brief illness.  Roger was born on April 27, 1951 and attended Ketron High School where he was on the basketball team and ran track.  Mr. Woods retired from AGC (Kingsport Plant) with over 40 years of service.  Following retirement, Roger continued his love of farming and hunting.  He also was an avid coon hunter, belonging to the Clinch Mountain Coon Club and the Corn Ridge Coon Club.  More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, whether it be farming, hunting, fishing, or watching them play sports.  Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his father, R.J. Woods and his brother, Richard (Rick) Woods.

Roger Woods is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karen Roberts Woods; a son, Brandon Jay Woods and wife, Ladonna; his daughter, Tiffany Bishop and husband, Jason; grandsons, Dawson J. Woods, Austin L. Bishop, Devan T. Woods, and Dale Connor Woods; his mother, Thelma Lee Woods; sisters, Joyce McLain and husband, Ed, Sandra McMillion and husband, Randall; his brother, Ronnie (Runt) Woods and wife, Neena; a sister-in-law, Peggy Woods; several very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, wonderful friends, and neighbors.  A special thank you goes out to his beloved cousin, Lyle Woods and friend, Paul Dingus.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday (November 14, 2018) from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence of his daughter, Tiffany.  A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday (November 14, 2018) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kevin Sanders, Pastor Andy Sensabaugh, and Pastor Ed McLain, officiating.  Music will be provided by Chris Holder and Journey Home and True Faith Quartet.  A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday (November 15, 2018) at 1 p.m. at Chestnut Flats Church Cemetery with Dawson Woods, Jason Bishop, Roger McMurray, Tyler Rhoton, Johnny Gillenwater, Chris Perhne, and Michael Dunn serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Sampson, Gerald Walters, Dustin Woods, Marty Eaton, and Pete Barbour.  Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m
