I'm sorry---I just came across Randy's obituary and wanted to send my condolences, even 3 years later. I never met him face-to-face, but every phone conversation and email were memorable. After my dad passed, I faced the task of what to do with his large currency collection. I posted a few things on eBay, and Randy was one of those who responded. Email led to phone calls, and phone calls led to friendship. Randy's trust, honesty, warmth, and humor were wonderful. He made a difficult time so much better for me and my family. He and I continued to talk for months after that, sometimes hours at a time. I'll always be thankful for and grateful to Randy, may he rest in peace.

We were truly saddened by the passing of Randy. Although we never met him, we considered Randy one our best friends. His wit,
humor and just plain down to earth person made dealing with him an honor. We would not only talk about currency, but our families and our everyday lives were a good part of our conversations.
. With his knowledge,Randy's website was like no other. Each note Randy listed came with the it's history. I haven't dealt with anyone else since hooking up with him.
He would joke with me about being from "up Nawth", and that we were his yankee friends. We will truly miss him, a good man, a good friend. Rest in Peace Randy, we love you.

We were greatly saddened to hear this news Thursday afternoon at the Baltimore Coin show where a good number of Randy's friends received the same news. We all were stricken with grief to lose such as great friend. Randy helped many a collector and dealer in his paper money career. I enjoyed many a discussion about history, the Civil War, paper money, his family, living in the countryside of Tennessee, and many more. He helped me with several of my books making them greater than they would be otherwise, a selfless contribution to the hobby. Randy also helped me become a better dealer than I otherwise would have been.
We had nicknames for each other based on us both attending an auction where a large number of Sam Upham Confederate counterfeit notes were offered. We both went kind of crazy and after the sale he called me "Sam" after Sam Upham. And I said, "Well if I am Sam, you are right there next in line, Sam Jr!". And they stuck.
Joyce and I will miss Randy and wish his family and friends well and offer prayers and condolences.

My condolences to Angie and the Family. I met Randy a long time ago at a Chicago Currency Show. Our friendship grew over the years. I spent a lot of time at Randy's tables at shows, and we sent numerous emails back and forth, always staying in contact to see what was going on. Randy sponsored me into the Trainmen, and I will miss him a lot.

I was so sorry to hear of Randy's passing. When I was a young lawyer just starting out Randy really helped me along with advise and sending me cases to give me some income. He was a class act and a good guy. We shared a lot of laughs. I know he will be missed.

My name is Enrico Aidala, I live in Turin, Italy and I am a Trainmen. I have never met personally anyone of the group, but I have the pleasure and honour to talk at distance with some of them I consider friends.
Randy Shipley was one of them!
We talked sometimes about notes and recently about his health problems, since I am a physician.
He was a great and honest man.
This is a sad day, I miss Randy, even if far from your wonderful country.
My condolences to all his family,
Enrico Aidala

Angela and Family - So very sorry to hear of Randy's passing. I, along with so many others, had held out hope he would be able to get through this. I have had the pleasure of dealing with Randy the past 15 years, and can even recall meeting Amy at the Chicago convention years ago. Randy was one of my sponsors to join the Trainmen, to which I am the current Commander, and will miss chatting and emailing with me, but most of all simply spending time with him at the shows. God Bless you and your family!
