Obituary of Bennie Bishop
Duffield - Bennie Bishop, 82 of Natural Tunnel, Virginia passed away, (5/14/2019) at his home from an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease. |
Bennie was born April 17, 1937 in Clinchport, Virginia, to Oscar Bishop (Big Daddy) and Louise Bishop (Big Mommy). He was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Nancy P. Bishop. Bennie was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a graduate of Rye Cove High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He was employed at Holliston Mills for 18 years and later retired as a carpenter. |
Along with his parents Bennie was preceded in death by sisters, Melba Harbin and Pauline Bishop; and a brother, Gerald Bishop. |
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Peterson Bishop; daughters, Regina Samy and husband Nashaat of Lebanon, TN and Kimberly B. Isbel and husband Tony of Blountville; sisters, Bernice Chapman (twin to Bennie) of Colonial Heights, Brenda Bishop, Aileen Gillam both of Clinchport, Marjorie White of Blountville; brother, Dave Bishop and wife Jane of Church Hill; granddaughters, Lauren Burke of Richlands, April Burke of Kingsport; grandson, Pvt. Ian Howell, U.S. Army (South Korea); great grandson, Jay Lawson of Kingsport; great granddaughters, Adyson and Braedi Moore both of Richlands; along with a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. |
A celebration of life service will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Darrell Fletcher officiating. Music will be provided by Beth Harden. |
A military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery with the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 conducting the rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roosevelt Rhoton, Kennie Yose, Jeff McDavid and Pvt. Ian Howell. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Bishop family. |
