Dr. Thompson was my biology professor at MECC in the mid 90s. What a wonderful instructor and kind man he was. Biology was fantastic with him. We stayed outside most days hunting mushrooms, plants, and recognizing tree species.
A remarkable person, I am truly sorry and saddened by his loss.
God grant you comfort and peace in these times of loss.

He was a special person for sure! We always chatted about old movies and movie stars. Infact, he gave me a copy of the movie "Shane" with Alan Ladd so I could give it to my son, Shane. My son was named after that movie. Both Shane and Ryan had John for Biology and enjoyed him a lot. I too, took a semester with him. He was a very good instructor and was easy to approach. I missed seeing him on campus when he was no longer teaching, even night classes. He will be sorely missed in this life but I hope to see him again!

Dr. Thompson was a great administrator and friend! He was a light for many students, including me. He always encouraged me and would check in on my progress. He wanted the most for his students! He was missed when he retired and he will be missed in this life. Barbara, you will be in our prayers, as well as the rest of the family will be in our prayers. Hope to see you soon. There will never be another John Thompson, that is for sure! He lived life as it should be lived, helping others! Now he will have all those biology questions answered for him personally! God bless you all.

Hello, my name is Angela Hammonds , maiden name (Combs). Mr. Thompson was vice principle at Gate City High School when I attended in 1987 and he was always so nice and respectable to me. I never did forget the kindness that he showed me and I just wanted to express my sympathy to the family and to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
