Mildred Dougherty

Obituary of Mildred Dougherty

On November 10, 2023, Mildred fell asleep peacefully in Jesus and woke up in Glory. Mildred was born April 7, 1941, in Midway, VA, to the late Warner and Alice Quillen. She attended Gate City High School. She married the love of her life, GW Dougherty, in November of 1961.

Mildred and GW were true soul mates and partners in all that they did. They were blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mildred loved to sing, especially for the Lord. She was an avid member of The Gateway Singers. She enjoyed quilting, canning vegetables, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her loving parents Mildred was preceded in death by her ten siblings.

Left to mourn for her are the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, GW Dougherty; daughter, Tammy (George) Lane; son, Wally (Alison) Dougherty, and daughter, Jill (Bobby) Gay; grandchildren; Nikki (Mickey) Summey, Megan (Jarrod) Sanders, Amber (Will) Gipe, Ashton McCoy, and Caden Gay; great-grandchildren, Miley McCoy, Camden Sanders, and John McCoy. Mildred had several nieces and nephews that she also loved as her own.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and the dialysis center of Kingsport that helped in her care the last several years.
