Obituary of Gary "Steve" Steven Dezarne

Gary “Steve” Steven Dezane 72, of Kingsport passed away on April 18, 2024. Steve was a 1970 graduate of Lynn View High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army for 19 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for a sharpshooter (Rifle M-16). Steve later worked for the Kingsport Police Department for 14 years. He loved working on cars as well as fishing, hunting, and being outdoors.  

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Willie (Compton) Dezarne; sisters, Helen Douglas and Dana Schutte; brother, Wayne Dezarne. 

Survivors include his daughters, Suzanne Sherfey and husband Nick and Rebecca Williams and husband T.J.; grandchildren, Hailey Ketron and Kayla Sherfey, Ethan Farmer and wife Erin, Mackenzie Dezarne-Yates, Timothy Williams Jr., Conner Barnett, and Hannah McCamy; nephew, Phillip Douglas; niece, Valerie Schutte; along with his beloved dog, Bubba. 

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. 

A military graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Honors will be conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
