Obituary of Jeanette Gmyrek

Jeanette Gmyrek died early on the morning of August 6, 2014 from a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest. She was born to Herman and Rosenell (Cooper) Mounts on November 17th, 1955 in the town of Williamson, WV. Though premature, she was a fighter and, with her paternal grandmother's care, pulled through. She was predeceased by her grandparents and by her father, Herman Mounts. She is survived by her husband of almost 29 years Daniel Gmyrek of the house; her mother Rosenell Mounts of Daytona Beach, FL; her sister Teresa Vasile and her husband Carl of Daytona Beach, Fl; Nephew and Niece CJ and Brittany Vasile as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and friends. Jeanette grew up in Daytona Beach, FL as a member of Central Baptist Church and was a 1973 graduate of Mainland High School where she was a member of the marching band. She attended DBCC upon graduation from Mainland, but soon decided to work instead of perusing additional education. Eventually, she found her calling in hospital work, first as a Ward Secretary then, at Ormond Memorial Hospital, as a Cardiac Monitor Tech. It was here that she met Daniel, both of them working in the Critical Care unit. As each was terribly shy they worked together for 1 ½ years before the nurses, seeing something that Jeanette and Dan didn't, set up them on their first date. Jeanette and Dan married 8 months later. Though she had no children of her own she helped look after the children of friends , particularly Amanda Kindle Duncan, whom she regarded as the daughter she never had. She also loved Austin Jaros-Riley, the boy Dan donated bone marrow to, like a son. After moving to Weber City in 1989 Jeanette worked at the old BRMC and then for 13 years at Indian Path Medical Center in the ICU and PCU units. She was forced to retire due to health issues in 2004, but continued as a volunteer for a while after that. She was passionate for her causes, particularly the plight of abused women and children. She volunteered with Hope House of Scott County for many years and served on the Board of Directors of Hope House of Scott County since 2003. Additionally, she joined Dan in his work for the National Marrow Donor Program, traveling throughout Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia to help conduct marrow donor drives. Jeanette loved animals and was never without cats and dogs in her life. She passionately loved horses, and prior to becoming ill had finally learned to ride under the tutelage of Ms Peggy Lack at the former Bunny B stables in Kingsport. Even after she could no longer ride she would visit the stables she rode at and visit her favorite horses, "Just to smell a horse". She also loved living in Scott County, with deer, turkey, and a host of other wildlife visiting her yard regularly. In the summer she cherished sitting on the front porch and watching the fireflies come out as evening fell. Her favorite verse comes from Psalm 118: 24 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it". And she did, every day of her life. To honor Jeanette the family requests donations be made in her name to Hope House of Scott County VA.
