Obituary of Wayne Kite

Delmas Wayne Kite, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday (July 26, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Kingsport on June 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Ola Grace Hamblen Kite and the late Sam Bob Kite Sr. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Hawaii from 1961-1965. Wayne was employed by Holston Defense from 1965-1995 as a Steam Plant Operator and a Team Leader. Among his many roles in life, he most cherished sharing his life with Helen, and loved his extended family. He was an amateur photographer and took many slides of his travels. His family shared, that although he served in the navy for four years, it took six years to watch all of his slides. He loved hunting, golfing, studying genealogy and enjoyed visiting gravesites to learn more about local history and family heritage. Wayne also enjoyed traveling, had been to all 50 states, and he and Helen traveled to many countries around the world. Wayne was a faithful and loving husband, son, brother, uncle and will be missed deeply by his family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lasky and the ICU staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. The Dr. Lasky and staff worked diligently to save Wayne's life, and never left his side throughout the night. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Helen Frazier Kite; one brother, Sam B. Kite, Jr.; sisters, Juanita Kite Morrison and husband Harry, Mae Kite, Brenda Kite Barlow & husband Warren, Linda Kite Begley and husband Jeff; brothers in law & sisters-in-law, Betty Frazier, Howard Frazier, Vivian Stapleton, Clyde Frazier and wife Velma, and Sue Frazier-Bear. Wayne was the proud uncle of 19 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and great nephews (whom he all lovingly called "Luke"). Special Friend, Russ Coffee. In accordance with Wayne's wishes, family and friends will observe a Celebration of Life Gathering at 1:00 pm. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Hamblen Family Cemetery on Glen Alpine Road (Sullivan Gardens.) In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for you to make a memorial contribution to Saint Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the family of Wayne Kite.
