Obituary of John Jess Johnson

John Jess Johnson Kingsport - John Jess Johnson, 92, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after short illness. He was born in Hancock County, TN, was a former resident of Rogersville and had lived in Kingsport for the past sixty two years. Mr. Johnson served in the U. S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Mead Corporation as a Wood Purchasing Agent after thirty nine years of service. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church; McPherson Masonic Lodge #99, Blackwater, VA and was a York Rite Mason. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his son Ronnie Johnson in 2006; parents, W.D. and Maggie Brewer Johnson; father in law and mother in law; H.H. and Frances Wilson Bledsoe; sisters, Marie Baker and Ruth Templeton and two brothers, infant boy Johnson and George Johnson. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty five years, Beulah Bledsoe Johnson; daughter, Mary Byington and husband, Wayne; two grandchildren, Valerie Miller and husband, Mike and Cyndi Johnson; step granddaughter, Hollie Childress; five great grandchildren, Heath Miller, Aiden Miller, Abigail Johnson, Jeremiah Jones and Aubrey Childress and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Friday July 25, 2014 at West View Baptist Church, 1037 Fairview Ave., Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. Music will be provided by his West View Baptist Church family. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Highland Cemetery, Rogersville, TN by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be men of West View Baptist Church. In Lieu memorial contributions may be made to West View Baptist Church, 1037 Fairview Ave., Kingsport, TN 37660 Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the family of John Johnson.
