Obituary of Geneva R. Cartmel

Geneva R. Cartmel, 81, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning July 17, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Gray, TN. Geneva lived the majority of her life in Kingsport. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Geneva taught school in Vienna, VA, Titusville, FL, Denver, CO, San Antonio, TX, Bitburg, Germany and Wichita, KS before moving back to Sullivan County School System where she retired after 36 years of service. She was a member of Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association and was a lifetime member of the PTA. Geneva was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church. She loved to travel and enjoyed sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willliam (Bill) Cartmel; parents, Eddie and Kathleen Strickler Bowser. She is survived by her son, Derwin Cartmel and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Isaac Andrew Cartmel and Rachael Michele Cartmel, and her dear best friend, June Brickey. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, July 21, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Moore officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Pond Cemetery, Kingsport, TN. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 pm. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Cartmel family.
