Obituary of Marsha Gatewood Jones

Winston-Salem- Marsha Gatewood Jones, 73, of Kingsport, TN passed away peacefully on June 6, 2014 unexpectedly in Winston-Salem, NC while visiting family. Marsha was born November 7, 1940 in Surgoinsville,TN to the late Oscar and Matilda Gatewood. She graduated from Surgoinsville High School where she was voted "Biggest Flirt" her senior year. Marsha worked for a numbers of years at the Kingsport Press in the 1960's. She worked at Holston Defense for 10 years and Burlington Coat Factory for 2 years. Marsha was full of life and energy and loved being surrounded by friends and family. She had a great love for flowers, butterflies, cats, laughing and dancing and just enjoying the things God had blessed her with; all of which she did up to the very end. She will be missed by all but know that God has received a special angel. Survivors include one daughter, Traci Franklin Ball and husband, Bob; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Preston Ball all of Winston-Salem, NC. Her beloved friend, Kyle Housewright; two sisters, Mildred Mauk and Louise Ferrell along with nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Mattie dearly. A celebration of her life will be held at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport on Thursday (June 12, 2014) at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Poore, officiating. A reception will follow the funeral on Thursday (June 12, 2014) or friends may also call anytime at the residence of Marsha's in Kingsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Sullivan County Humane Society, P.O. Box 922, Kingsport, TN 37662. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Jones family.
