Obituary of Nancy Skeen Collins
Nancy Skeen Collins, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Monday evening, May 12, 2014 after a brief illness.
She was born in Kingsport and had lived in the Tri Cities area all her life. Mrs. Collins graduated from Emory and Henry and earned her BS degree from ETSU. Mrs. Collins began her career as a school teacher, but was best known as a loving mother and for her church missions work. She was an active member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church where she participated in the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the Abiding Friendship Circle. She also served the Holston Methodist Conference as District President of United Methodist Women and led and participated in youth ministries, camp ministries and numerous missions' activities. At Buffalo Mountain Church Camp, she was best known for "Dancing with Nancy."
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.M. "Stokey" Collins, Jr. and her parents, Rev. Carroll and Bertie Sensabaugh Skeen.
Surviving are her children, Carroll Collins and friend, Barbara Malone, Mary Collins Bacon and husband, Alan, Jerry Collins, Michael Collins; grandchildren, Matthew Forbush and wife, Kathleen, Bradley Bacon, Chad Bacon and wife, Tara, Allison Cordell and husband, Jon, Lexia Rabon and husband, Randy and Logan Honeycutt; great grandchildren, Logan Cordell, Morgan Cordell, Weston Cordell, Caleb Bacon and Collin Hogstrom; her church family and many special friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Friday, May 16, 2014 at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, 631 Lebanon Rd. Kingsport, TN 37663.
A funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Robert Burlingham, Rev. Cathy Hale and Rev. Tom Seay officiating. Music will be provided by Danny Fleming, Jane Adams, Kay Speck and JoAnn Wiles.
A Graveside will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gerald Gilbert, Owen Way, Jack Garland, Bob Stevens, Danny Howe, Bob Shelton and Danny Fleming. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nancy's beloved mission's team.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 10:50 am for the graveside service.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 6031, Kingsport, TN 37663.
