Obituary of Wayne Vandergriff

Wayne Vandergriff, 73, of Kingsport passed away unexpectedly Tuesday May 6, 2014. Wayne was born in Logan, WV on December 28, 1941 to the late Leonard F. and Fannie Vandergriff. He graduated from Pennington High School. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. He was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church and truly loved the Lord. Wayne was a private first class veteran having served in the U. S. Army. He retired from Pet Dairy and was a current employee of KATS. Wayne enjoyed the TN Vols, Camping, gardening, spending time with family, making people laugh, and he loved helping others. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas W. Vandergriff; sister, Linda K. Hagar. He is survived by his wife of 49 precious years, Hilda F. Vandergriff; daughter, Vonda K Kinser of Kingsport; grandson, Ethan Kinser of Greeneville; brother, Freeman Vandergriff and wife Carol of Woodway, VA; sisters, Gwendolyn Shepard of Keokee, VA and Gloria Atkins and Jerry of Hillard, OH; along with several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral service will be held at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Coates officiating. A graveside service will be held 11 am Saturday May 10, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Gilbert, Ben Tittsworth, Gerald Owens, Wayne Williams, Mickey Bush, Joe Stallard, Jack Cox, Kenny Lawson and Larry Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will be Co-Workers of KATS. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Vandergriff family.
