Obituary of William Calhoun

Church Hill - William "Bill" Calhoun, 84 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Virginia, Bill had lived in Kingsport until 1953 when he moved to Ohio to work for General Motors. He retired after nearly 35 years and then worked for Miltronics for 10 years before returning to Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Amy King Calhoun; his parents, Neal and Margie Winegar Calhoun; sons, James, Jack and Jerry; sister, Dorothy Dagenhart; brothers, Walter, Mack and John. Bill is survived by his daughters, Janice Herrell of Church Hill, Joyce Bolden and husband Curtis of Charleston, WV and Julie Stewart and husband Dave of Wadsworth, OH; son, Jeffrey Calhoun and wife Carolyn of Venice, FL; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Laney and Jessie Smith of Johnson City and Deloris Mauk of Surgoinsville; brothers, Edsel Calhoun of Kingsport and Franklin Calhoun of Johnson City; the love of his life, Opal Munsey of Mt Carmel; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill, TN. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gary Gerhardt officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
