Obituary of James Edward Martin

James "Jim" Edward Martin, 81 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born in Hawkins County and had lived most of his life in Kingsport and was a veteran of the U.S Army serving in Korea. James was a general contractor working in the glass industry for over 55 years. He was co-founder of Dixie Glass until 1988. He later owned and operated Custom Window Replacement Company before retiring. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688, served as Master in 1988, was past president of Kingsport Shrine Club, Past Worthy Patron Liberty Chapter 198 O.E.S, member of York Rite Bodies and member of Knoxville Scottish Rites, where he received several honors. He was a past board member of Mountain Region Speech and Hearing. He was an avid golfer having made 8 "holes in one". He was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church where he had taught the Adult Men's Bible Class. James loved his family very much. James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carmilla Breeding Martin; daughters, Teena Lineberger and husband Mickey and Teri LaFerney and husband Don LaFerney, Jr.; son, Tim Martin and wife Robin; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Livesay, Bertie Shoemaker and husband Kyle and Dessa Woods and husband Jim; brothers, Roy Martin and wife Juanita, Willard Martin and wife Cindy and John "Buddy" Martin and wife Sophia; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence. A masonic service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with a funeral service to follow at 5:00 p.m. Rev. John Coates will officiate. Burial will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Mtn. Home National Cemetery in Mtn. Home, TN Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Martin family.
