Obituary of John Robert Gibbons

John Robert Gibbons, 90, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday October 23, 2013. He has lived in the Hawkins County area all of his life. He served the Lord by singing bass in several groups over the course of 64 years. A farmer by trade, John Robert was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Union Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Gibbons and sister, Thelma Gibbons He is survived by three sons, Larry Gibbons and wife Edna, Church Hill, Bob Gibbons and wife Nancy, Huntsville, TN and Leon Gibbons and wife Barbara, Church Hill; four grandchildren, Stacey Gibbons and wife Jessica, Denise Barrett and husband Roger, Chris Gibbons and wife Cassandra and Salena Gibbons; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. Friends may also call anytime at the home of the son, Larry Gibbons. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Elder Fred Gilreath, Rev. Lee Knowles and Rev. Doug Arrington officiating. Music will be provided by the Riverside Quartet. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am Saturday in the Elm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
