Obituary of Charles Gatewood

Charles Robert Gatewood Jr, 73, of Surgoinsville, passed away Friday September 20, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He loved to watch NASCAR and wrestling, hanging at the garage with his buddies, Greg, A.J., Josh Worley and Josh, playing cards every weekend and cruising in Surgoinsville in his old cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Elsie Gatewood; daughter, Wanda (Sue) Harris; brother, Dewey Gatewood and sister, Mattie (Tom) Kersey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edith Gatewood; son, David Gatewood; three daughters, Karen Roberts, Kathie Shriner and Kelley Lombr; ten grandchildren, Jason, Cassie, Nichole, Chelsea, Josh, Brady, Katie, Scottie, Shane and Sidney; six great grandchildren, Devon, Gabe, Joey, Isabella, Khloe and Dezmin; two sisters, Bernice "Sis" Burton and Bonnie Derrick; two brothers, Lewis Gatewood and James "Pap" Gatewood; and two furkids that loved watching tv with him, Pumpkin and Rosie. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7pm Monday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. A funeral service will be conducted at 11am Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter's Valley Cemetery, Surgoinsville. Pallbearers will be Jason Harris, Scottie Shriner, Matt Blackman, Joshua Roberts, Brady Temple, David Gatewood, Phillip (Burger) Burton and Shane Shriner.
