Obituary of Nina Bea Daugherty

Nina Bea Greene Daugherty, 95, born April 8, 1918, passed from this life to her Heavenly home on September 19, 2013. Nina was born in Hancock County, TN and she was the last surviving sibling in her immediate family but shared the legacy of the importance of family through her life-long example of unconditional love. Nina was the best friend and lifelong companion for 74 years to W. Clarence Daugherty, her surviving and devoted husband of 72 years. She was the proud mother of Larry Daugherty of Kingsport, and wife Sharon, and David Daugherty of Saluda, NC, and wife Jan. Also surviving are her seven granddaughters and their spouses along with several great grandchildren who will always remember their Grandma. Nina has many special surviving nieces and nephews who remember her legacy of love and commitment fondly. She and Clarence married June 29, 1941 in a double wedding in Kingsport. After Clarence's military service, they moved to Sullivan Gardens and started their family before moving back to Kingsport. Nina worked for JC Penney in the shoe department and candy department for a while but eventually stayed home where she enjoyed doing things for others, including growing a flower garden to share with neighbors and friends. Nina and Clarence have been members of Calvary Baptist Church on Pine Street for over 60 years. Forty of those years were spent teaching Sunday school, even though she taught prior to that from the time she was sixteen. She also spent several years assisting shut-ins who were members of her church. Nina was a member of the Liberty Chapter of the Eastern Star where she assisted with multiple charitable causes. She and Clarence were avid campers as well, taking their motor home to Eastman Campground and Pigeon Forge regularly during the prime of their retirement. The family would like to thank Dr. David Franzus and his staff for over twenty-five years of family medical services, Amedysis Home Health for two and a half years of assistance, especially Tricia, Preston Place II for unconditional support and honorary care, and Amedysis Hospice for a peaceful transition to Nina's Heavenly home where she will wait patiently until she sees her sweetheart again. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Rev. Richard Harris, officiating. Music will be provided by Joel Calloway and Robin Collins. Burial will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary Pallbearers are the Sr. Men's Adult Bible Class of Calvary Baptist Church. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Daugherty family.
