Obituary of Verdabell Ann Pruitt

Surgoinsville, TN - Verdabell (Ann) Pruitt, 80, of Surgoinsville, Tennessee, was born in Seneca, Iowa on June 29, 1933. She grew up on a farm in Lone Rock, Iowa. Ann was married to Emanuel Eugene Pruitt on May 9, 1953 in Washington D.C., they were married 60 years. Ann worked for the FBI, Philco-Ford and TVA. She enjoyed traveling, reading, church work, quilting and keeping in contact with her long time Air Force related friends around the country. She knew and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was an active member of New Providence Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and an active leader of Women of the Church. She was also actively involved in the Holston Presbytery and the Kingsport SonRise Emmaus Community. Ann is preceded in death by her father, Ornie Behrends, mother, Goldie Behrends, brother, Clifford Behrends, son David Pruitt and niece, Carol Spear. She is also preceded in death by Ornie's second wife, Florence Behrends. Ann is survived by husband Emanuel (Gene) Pruitt; son Kevin Pruitt & wife Kim, Johnson City, daughter Denise Pruitt, Hinton, West Virginia, son Randall Pruitt & wife Jeannie, Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Taylor Pruitt, Knoxville; Landon Pruitt, Surgoinsville, Lauren Pruitt, Morristown, Mark Pruitt and Shannon Pruitt, Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Golden, Rogersville, Marie Bright, Scottsburg, Indiana, Sue Hinkle, Surgoinsville, Joan Pruitt, Scottsburg, Indiana and brother-in-law Robert Pruitt and wife Mary Jane, Surgoinsville. She is also survived by Lucille Faber (former sister-in-law) & husband Melvin of Burt, Iowa, Mark Behrends & wife Mary of Lone Rock, Iowa, Cheryl Baddeley & husband Brent of Gruver, Iowa, Rita Schroeder, Junior Hurlburt and Merwyn Hurlburt, all of Lone Rock, Iowa, and other family members. The family will receive friends Monday, from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 214 Stoney Point Road, Surgoinsville. A celebration of life service will begin at 6:30 PM. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to New Providence Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 46, Surgoinsville, TN 37873.
