Obituary of Otta Estepp
Otta Blanche Estepp, "Granny" to everyone who knew her, joined "Pops" on the golden shore on Thursday morning August 22, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was born on April 5, 1917 to the late Worley and Mary Lane Hammonds. Granny was a lifelong homemaker, mother and friend to all. She loved young people and thus was called "Granny". She was such a loving mother to so many, a seamstress and a patriarch in the Manville community in which she lived. She attended Manville Holiness Church for many years and currently attended Bethel Apostolic when possible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, whom she was married to for 72 ½ years; four sisters and three brothers.
Blanche is survived by her two daughters, Betty Hood & husband Hubert and Dana Tipton & husband Paul, all of Gate City; four grandchildren, Sherry Christian & husband Rev. Phillip, Marquita Templeton & husband O.C., Scott Hood & wife Sonya and Shelda Hensley & husband Pat; eight great grandchildren, Brad Christian & wife Kim, Ben Christian & wife Mandy, Josh Steadman & wife Heather, Carlie Hobbs, Lyndsay Gayle Hood, Jake Hood, Candace and Cheyenne Hensley; four great-great grandchildren, Mason, Austin, Kyler and Bentley Christian; brother, Jimmy Hammonds: two special nieces, Judy Broadwater & family and Pat Robinson & family; along with an innumerable number of friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:30 pm on Saturday at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy 23N, Weber City. Funeral services will follow in the chapel with Rev. Phil Christian, Rev John Lovelace and Pastor Garland Tipton officiating. Music will be provided by the Christian family.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Joey Broadwater, Jessee Broadwater, Mason Christian, Jake Hood, Josh Steadman and Scott Hood will serve as pallbearers. Keith Davidson, Lawson Robinson, Bo Broadwater, O.C. Templeton, Chris Davidson, Austin Christian, Kyler Christian and Bentley Christian will serve as honorary pallbearers. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:15 am.
