Obituary of Peggy Jean Hammond

Peggy Jean Hammond, 72, of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord Monday morning, August 12, 2013 at her home. She was a retired employee of the Kingsport Press, Hawkins County Branch and of the Baptist faith. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Jack Hammond; parents, Willie and Minnie Shepherd; brothers, James Shepherd, C.J. (Cissro Joe) Shepherd and Kenneth Shepherd; sisters, Arlene Jessee, Nannie Scarberry, Isabell Shepherd, Alice McCarty and Loraine McKnight and granddaughter, Alannah Hammond She is survived by her two sons, Greg Hammond and wife Tonya, Church Hill and David Hammond and wife Kaye, Rogersville; daughter, Lisa Dunlap and husband John, Pauline, SC; four grandchildren, David Hammond Jr and wife Leslie, Johnny Dunlap, Allison Dunlap and Gina Hammond; two great grandchildren, Violet and Amelia Hammond; two brothers, Billy and Leon Shepherd; two sisters, Helen Scarberry and Velma (Dolly) Robinette; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends The family will receive friends from 5 till 7pm Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Mark McCarty officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm Thursday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City VA, with Rev. Wayne McCarty officiating. Pallbearers will be Rick McCarty, Mark McCarty, Jack McCarty, Wayne McCarty, Tommy Bush and Gary Scarberry. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 pm. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the family of Peggy Hammond.
