Obituary of Velma Sharon Peters

Velma Sharon Peters, 68 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2014, at her home. She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a graduate of Lynn View High School. She worked in the medical field throughout the area. Her most lengthy employment was with Indian Path Medical Center (Mountain State Health). Sharon had a love for flowers, her favorite being the Rose of Sharon and Hydrangeas. She was an avid reader who loved to work puzzles and especially had a true love for people. Sharon was a very active member of Apostolic Lighthouse, was involved in different capacities with the women of the church, having a big part in the Tuesday morning Ladies Prayer Group. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Maxie Gertrude Peters and a son-in-law, Travis Baker. Surviving are her daughter, Shelly Baker; her two grandchildren, Austin Baker and Makenze Baker; the father of her children, Frank Qualls; sister, Inez Herrmann; two brothers, Rev. Elwood Peters & wife Carolyn (Hot Springs, AK) and Gary Peters & wife Kaye (Greensboro, GA); lifetime friends and special cousins, Gloria Livingston and Sandra Kaye Peters, along with several additional nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 145 Shipp Springs Road, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 with Pastor David Peters, officiating. A eulogy will be offered by Vicki Byington and Sandra Kaye Peters. Music will be provided by Faxon Quartet and Shana Livingston. Private burial will be held on Wednesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport. Honorary Pallbearers are, Rodney Baker, Rob Peters, Austin Baker, Frank Qualls, Steve Sumter, Randy Herrmann and Jim Gillenwater. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Peters family
