Obituary of John McLain

John B. "Jack" McLain, 83 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Church Hill and retired electrician. He later retired from Quebecor World where he worked as a security guard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Korean Conflict. Jack was a member of the IBEW Local 5 out of Pittsburgh and a member of the American Legion Post #3 in Kingsport. He was a member of Morrison City Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Leah Booker McLain; son, Shannon McLain; sister, Gladys Birchfield; brothers, Edward and Elmer McLain. Jack is survived by his wife of 22 years, Genda Mellons McLain of the home; daughter, Lola Regitz of Greensburg, PA; sons, Jackie McLain, Sr. and wife Rose of Derry, PA, John McLain, Jr. and wife Joan of Church Hill and Roger McLain of Greensburg, PA; step-daughters, Tammy Lawson of Church Hill and Pam Hammonds and husband Gary of Kingsport; sisters, Ada Smith of Church Hill, Ethel Cradic of Surgoinsville, Vesta Dobbs of Church Hill, Verna Gilbert of Church Hill, Naomi Blevins of Kingsport and Lola Henry and husband Wayne of Church Hill; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Keith Seals. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brian Capps and Brother Ed McLain officiating. Music will be provided by Penny Capps. A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with the American Legion #3/265 conducting the rites. The Color Guard will serve as pallbearers. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the McLain family.
