Obituary of Ralph N. Fields

Ralph N. Fields, 75, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning (July 23, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. Ralph was a truck driver for over 17 years being owner/operator of Malone Freight lines and also worked for Mead Corporate Fleet. In 1981, he formed Ralph Fields Construction and retired in 2001. The company is still being operated by his sons. Ralph was a very active member of Hickman Memorial Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He truly loved his church family. He was very active in his community where he was a member and served as a past President of the Bloomingdale Ruritan Club. He had a perfect attendance for over 30 years. Mr. Fields was very instrumental in starting the fish fry 14 years ago at the Bloomingdale Ruritan Club making sure it was a success. He was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Esther Fields; a brother, Bill Fields; his sister, Jeanette Yates. Ralph Fields is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Wanda Surgener Fields; sons, Tim Fields, David Fields and wife, Sheila, Sammy Fields; a daughter, Kim Woods and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Chris Woods, Heather Miller, Adam Fields, and Logan Fields; great grandchildren, Brycen, Brooke, Jayden, and Kaylee; step-mother, Nancy Fields; brothers, James Fields and wife, Betty, Joey Fields and wife, Rhonda, Phillip Dykes and wife, Freda; sisters, Carol Hensley, Judy Castle and husband, Rev. Rodger along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday (July 26, 2014) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday (July 25, 2014) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jamie Mauk, Pastor J.E. Mauk, and Pastor Johnny Gibson, officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor J.E. Mauk and wife, Carol, True Faith Quartet, and Oscar Vicars. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday (July 26, 2014) at 11 a.m. at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be member of Hickman Memorial Baptist Church. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 am to go in procession. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Fields family.
