Obituary of Colopy Marker

Colopy (Kalliope) Marker, 88, of Kingsport passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio by Greek immigrant parents, she grew up learning the importance of family, faith, and integrating into the American society. The strength of her faith and how she dealt with life's challenges is the way she will be remembered. Colopy married Constantine A. Marker in 1946, and both moved to Richmond, Indiana to open a restaurant known as Connie's House of Marker. The couple operated the restaurant for over 50 years and as the name implies, it was truly the house of Marker where all were welcomed as a family. It was in the restaurant and within the family that Colopy became known for her great culinary talent. Colopy was often called upon to be a caregiver to those in need because of her selfless nature. She had many talents, a few of which were floral arrangement, dress design, gardening, and painting. Colopy was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband of 64 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Georgia Gray (Charles) of Kingsport and Christina Johns (Dennis) of Richmond, Virginia, her grandchildren, Peter and Angela Johns, and great grandson, Alexander. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Father Stephen Mathewes, officiating. The funeral service will be on Friday, July 18th, 2014 at 11 am at Christ The Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 150 Elizabeth Ann Circle, Bluff City, TN. 37618.
