Obituary of Phyllis Carpenter

Phyllis Carpenter Kingsport - Phyllis Carpenter, 67, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. She was born in Kingsport and had lived here all her life. Mrs. Carpenter retired from Kmart with over 30+ years of service. She was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and a friend to all who knew her. Phyllis was an avid Prayer Warrior. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Wellmont Hospital and Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Carpenter; mother, Dorothy Marie Johnson Collins; her father, Clyde Collins and brothers in law, Henry Dillow and Jerry Carter. Surviving are her son, Jeffery A. Carpenter, Sr. and wife, Melissa; daughter, Karen "Susie" Griffin and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Ashley Crews and husband, Michael, Jeffery Carpenter and wife, Tabatha, Meagan Tedder and husband, Joe, Stephanie Griffin and Jordan Griffin and wife, Amber; great grandchildren, Audrey Boggs, David Crews, Laidan Barlow, Olivia Barlow, Jaiden Carpenter, Pyper Carpenter and Oakley Griffin; brother, Fred Collins and wife, Nancy; sisters, Wanda Dillow, Betty Carter and Joyce Pridemore and husband, Jack; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 11 am - 7 pm Monday, May 26, 2014 at her residence. The family also will receive friends from 4 - 7 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Apostolic Lighthouse,145 Shipp Springs Rd., Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor David Peters officiating. Music will be provided by Jonathan Peters. A graveside service will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Paul Miller, Tracy Hicks, Bryan Dean, Chris Mulkey, Aaron Sims and Bryan Mulkey. Memorial Contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
