Obituary of Geneva Greer

Our loss is heaven's gain and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Duffield, VA - Geneva Jane Thompson Greer, 72, of Duffield, VA, went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Kingsport, had lived here most of her life and had lived in Duffield for the past three years. Mrs. Greer was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted widow and loving mother, and grandmother. She was everyone's shoulder to lean on; she was kind, caring and willing to help anyone, especially her family. She was an angel sent from above. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Greer; parents, Frank and Ethel Jones Thompson and her brother, Carl Light, Sr. who died last week. Surviving are her daughter, Melinda Greer of Duffield and husband, Tim Barnette of Duffield; son, Scott Greer and wife, Leann Greer of Kingsport; grandchildren, Scotty "Punkin" Greer and wife, Trisha, Samantha Lynn Greer, Debra Greer, Michael Greer, Chandryia White, Bronson White, Bradley Barnette, Timothy Barnette, Jr. and a special granddaughter, Emiley Barnette; great grandchildren, Isabella Alpizar, Migueal Alpizar and Ayden Barnette; sister, Hazel Brickey Scarborough; brothers, Earl Light of Fort Blackmore, VA and Billy Thompson and wife JoAnne of Gray Station; sister in law, Faye Light of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; her faithful companion, Angel and special friends Don and Judy Bright. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport or anytime at the residence of her son, Scott Greer, 221 Garfield Dr., Kingsport 37664. A funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel, downtown Kingsport with pastor Andy Sensabaugh officiating. Graveside service will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bronson White, Earl Light, Marvin Kiser, Scott Gibson, Daniel Browning and Ted Light. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Bright, Jerry Sams, Scotty "Punkin" Greer and Tim Barnette.
