Obituary of Arthur Wayne Salyer

Church Hill- Arthur Wayne Salyer, of Church Hill went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning (January 31, 2014) at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Russell County, Virginia and had spent the majority of his life in Kingsport. Wayne worked at General Shale before retiring from Tri-State Block. Following retirement , he worked for several years with Bolton Concrete in Johnson City. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, V. & Maude Johnson Salyer; a step-son, Gary Campbell. Arthur Wayne Salyer is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Salyer; his faithful companion, "Dusty"; step-son, Mike Salyer; a sister, Louise Osborne; half-sisters, Nancy Price and Mary Sue Herendon; half-brothers, Arvil and Dorothy Salyer, Paul and Agnes Salyer; several nieces, nephews, and many friends; special friends, Jim Smallwood and Joey Smallwood. Calling hours will be held on Sunday (February 2, 2014) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday (February 2, 2014) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Tolley, officiating. Music will be provided by the Hensley family. A graveside service will follow the funeral service at Holston View Cemetery with Mike Salyer, Jim Smallwood, Mike Ford, John Ford, David Ryans, Darrell Johnson, Jr., Joe Marsh, and Jonathan Ford serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 116 Jack White Drive Suite 6, Kingsport, TN 37664. Carter-Tent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Salyer family.
