Obituary of Gerald Hans Leak

GERALD HANS LEAK Midway, VA - Gerald Hans Leak, 84, of Midway died peacefully Sunday, January 25 at home of complications from a stroke. He was surrounded by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, daughter and grandchildren as they read, sang and held his hand on his last days. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Gerald was born in Mingo, Kansas to Cora and John Leak and grew up with two brothers and one sister. He met Kathleen McConnell of Midway in 1949 and they were married in 1955. They started a family in Colorado, lived for three years in Denton, TX. then returned to Colorado where they spent 50 years. Gerald worked in the commercial insurance industry and retired in 1987. In 2011 Gerald and Kathleen moved to their cabin near the McConnell family land where Kathleen grew up. Gerald loved the people, the mountains and the warm sunshine of the Home Place. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, two nephews and other family members. Gerald is survived by his wife of 58 years, son Gary (Ellen) Leak, daughter Gara (Bruce) Bridwell, 6 grandchildren in Colorado, California, Alaska and Montana, his brothers Mel and Duane (Dolores), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A good and gentle man who loved his family and was a friend to everyone he met, Gerald's final resting place will be in Lakewood, Colorado. A Memorial Service will be at Midway Memorial Methodist Church on Friday, January 31. Visitation will be at 6 pm and service at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Carter-Trent / Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Leak family.
