" I Love you brother " that's how Carl ended every conversation we ever had. Carl's friendship meant the world to me and i'm truly going to miss him. You would never know if Carl was having a bad day or if he was hurting he was always upbeat and so kind to everyone.Carl was a devoted husband and loved his family, he talked about his grand-kids all the time. My prayers go out to his wonderful wife Brenda and the rest of the Hensley family. May God give you strength through this tragic time.I love you all, Junior Mowdy.

TO CARL'S FAMILY, I PRAY GOD'S GRACE HOLDS AND COMFORT'S YOU. I THANK GOD FOR THE BLESSING OF KNOWING CARL AND YOU. CARL WAS A BLESSING TO SO MANY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND ADEQUATE WORDS TO DESCRIBE CARL AND HIS UNIQUE PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE AROUND HIM.
BUT ONE WORD COMES TO MIND WHICH HOLDS TRUE AND EXEMPLIFIES HIS TIES, THAT WORD IS "LOVE". CARL GAVE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE TO ALL. THIS WAS ONE OF MANY LIFE'S LESSONS HE TAUGHT ME AND HOW IMPORTANT THAT IS IN BEING A MAN. TO KNOW CARL IS TO LOVE HIM. I LOVED CARL. THANK GOD HE ALLOWED ME TO BE HIS FRIEND. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU,
JACK

It was my pleasure to have known and worked with Carl for several years. We worked in book packing together at the Press. During our last break of the day we (men in book packing) would go to the back steps and have bible study and singing. I will never forget those days. It is good to know we will meet again in heaven. He will be missed by many. Praying for comfort for his family...

My heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the family of Carl. He was one of a kind and loved by all who came to know him. Carl genuinely loved and cared about his family and friends. Never a day went by that he didn't ask me "Do you need anything?" or tell me "I love ya brother". Even in sickness it was never about him. He was concerned about how you were. I consider it a privilege to have known him and to be his friend. I will miss him dearly. Your friend, Glenn Spangler

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of meeting Carl and his siblings the summer of '67 as I was employed by the Kingsport Recreation Dept. and was assigned to the playground at Cloud Apartments. Carl, his brothers, sister, and others of the community made it the most memorable summer of my youth. What a joy being able to make new friends, socialize, play five days a week and get paid for it. I loved going to "work" each day and hated to see that summer close and lose contact with such a great group. But I never forgot Carl, Archie, their siblings, the Morelock brothers, and the many others. Carl and I reconnected about four years ago when he was helping with some work at my mother's house. How refreshing it was to talk and recall some of the events from that summer! Carl was a great guy! I give thanks for his friendship and look forward to the great reunion we will have again some day. My prayers to the dear family of this man who will be missed, but long remembered through his life and legacy during his short stay on this earth. God bless!

Dear Brenda,
It saddens us deeply for the loss of Carl. He had a smile that could light up a room, and a great sense of humor to go with it. He had a heart big enough for the whole world to fit in it. He had a great love for life.
You (Brenda) we're the love of his life. And he loved his children and grandchildren too. And when I look back with fond memories and the great times we had when we worked in Atlanta together. And the visits through the years. He was the best friend I ever had, more like a brother than a friend. We will miss him very much. And we know he is in heaven fully healed at peace and in rest.
Sadly missed, and in deep sorrow.

Clyde Surgener posted a condolence
Sunday, January 19, 2014
My name is Clyde Surgener; Carl was a special friend of mine since childhood. We spent many hours fishing at Reedy Creek, terrorizing the neighborhood, we played many sports together. My mother Mina loved him very much, when we would come to my home from playing ball, he would holler,"whatya got to eat Mina!". After we graduated high school we lost touch with each other till I saw him and his wife at walmart, and found out he was working for the sheriffs office. I'll never forget the times we had exploring reedy creek and the woods and fishing. May God hold him in His bosom for a while and then let him reunite with his mom and dad and hopefully my mother too. I'm sure she'll be glad to see him. God bless you Carl and rest in peace my brother.

Dear Carl's Loved Ones:
I barely knew Carl. But during the few times we were together, our spirits connected with life and laughter. We literally danced a jig. Even when neither Carl's health nor mine was up to par we would do-si-do. He was especially welcoming and loving to my daughter, Amber (Joey's wife) as a new member of their family. I had only begun to learn Carl's attributes and view his death as a great loss in my life. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and prayers that God send whatever each individual needs during this most difficult time. Diane Brooks (Amber's Mother)

I am honored to have known Carl Hensley, he is one of the greatest men I have ever met in my life. Carl always greeted you with a warm smile and a hug. I have never left a conversation with Carl without him saying, "do you need anything". From my talks with Carl, I know he was a devoted family man and loved his grandchildren dearly. Carl was loved by everyone, and he will be greatly missed. Brenda you are one of the strongest women I know. My prayer for you is to ask God to hover over you and your family and to help you through this tragic time in your lives....COME YOU WEARY AND HE WILL GIVE YOU REST, COME YOU WHO MOURN LAY ON HIS BREAST. To Bree and family Pennies From Heaven
I found a penny today, just laying on the ground
But it's not just a penny, This little coin I found.
Found pennies come from heaven,
That's what Grandpa told to me
He said Angels toss them down
Oh, how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you,
They toss a penny down, Sometimes just to cheer you up
or to make a smile out of that frown
So don't pass by that penny when you're feeling blue,
It may be a penny from heaven
That Grandpa's tossed to you.

Brenda & family,
If all the world's people were like Carl, what a wonderful place it would be. Here in his corner of the world, he graced us with his unchanging love, kindness, warm smile and phenomenal personality. I am so thankful to have been but a small part of his life. He has done more for me than he ever knew. I looked forward to being wherever he was in the facility because I knew he'd greet me with a warm hug, happy smile and a little kiss on my cheek. You two were a match made in heaven.
I pray God's love surrounds you during this time and all the days to follow.
With heartfelt sympathy & love,
Rita Miller
