Obituary of Adaline H. Surrett

Adaline Hurd Surrett, 90, of Kingsport, peacefully passed into heavenly rest on Sunday, December 29, 2012. Born in Dona (Scott County), Virginia, Mrs. Surrett grew up in Southwest Virginia and lived most of her adult life in Whitmire, South Carolina where she worked in the textile industry until 1998 when she retired from Carlisle Finishing Division of Cone Mills in Carlisle, SC and moved to Kingsport. She was born March 13, 1923, to the late Doyle D. Hurd and Ethel Gilliam Hurd. Mrs. Surrett loved her family and was a blessing to all that she met. She loved flowers, gardening, quilting and other crafts especially making them to give to people in need of the handmade items. She often made toboggans and donated them to the children in the Kingsport through programs for the needy. She worked in church throughout her life. She was a member at New Life Christian Fellowship in Whitmire, SC. She attended Heritage First Church of God since living Kingsport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marion Surrett. Surviving are her brothers Walter Frank Hurd and wife Edna and Hugh Jack Hurd, and sister-in-law Frances King Hurd, all of Kingsport. Also, surviving are her nieces and nephews: Mary Ethel Hurd Beuris and husband, Bobby of Kingsport; Drendall Hurd and wife, Glenda of Kingsport; Jack Hurd and wife, Karen of Charlotte, NC; Janeen Ward and husband, Loda of Kingsport; great nieces and nephews: Christopher Fraser and wife, Alaina of Surgoinsville; Adrian Fortenberry and husband, Scott of Nashville; Rosanna Hildreth and husband Jesse of Singapore, SG; Megan Land and husband, Matt of Kingsport; Alan Beuris and fiancée, Stephanie Price; three great-great nieces and a nephew: Lily Hildreth, Victoria Fraser, Isla Fraser, and Carsten Land. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 pm, January 2, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN or at the residence anytime. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. William Yon, Rev. Ray Massey, and Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Music will be provided by Jeff and Denise McReynolds and Leslie Mann. Graveside service and burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, TN. The family of Mrs. Surrett would like to thank the staff of Graystone Healthcare in Blountville, TN for the care that was given to her during the month that she has resided there as a result of her recent illness.
